The challenge

Choosing to partner with Fresh Start initially in 2020 for the gardens, the service continued to support the newly opened garden centre in summer 2021 with segregated waste and recycling collections. The carbon conscious service which Fresh Start provide, coupled with the service levels offered by the independent, local, family run business were all reasons why RHS chose to partner with Fresh Start.

‘We choose Fresh Start to dispose of our waste because they are a local family run business. They are very approachable and quick to reply to emails. On our recent visit we were shown around site and were made to feel very welcome. They recycle our waste as much as possible. I’m happy to recommend Fresh Start for waste services’.

The solution

As part of Fresh Start Waste’s open and honest recycling offering, customers are invited to visit the site to see how real recycling is done. A group of representatives from RHS Bridgewater’s Green Team wanted to see where their waste goes and how it is processed, so visited the Fresh Start state of the art materials recovery and recycling centre at Swinton in January 2023. The team were extremely impressed with the attention to detail Fresh Start give to ensuring the maximum amount of waste is recycled.

The results

Fresh Start provide collections from two locations.  Firstly, the horticultural area where glass, paper, card and general waste are collected separately. Secondly, the main garden centre where separate collections of cardboard, glass and general waste take place.

All general waste is then processed at the Fresh Start materials recovery facility. This is to maximise the recycling levels further. Any non-recyclable waste is then processed further as RDF to generate green energy.
