Manchester Pride is one of the UK’s leading LGBTQ+ charities. Their vision is a world where LGBTQ+ people are free to live and love without prejudice. They are part of a global Pride movement celebrating LGBTQ+ equality and challenging discrimination.
The Annual Manchester Pride Festival 2022 took place from 26th – 29th August, over the busy bank holiday weekend. Ideal FM chose to work once again with Fresh Start Waste Services to maximise recycling of waste produced during the event, and ensure the event waste collection service ran smoothly.

Ahead of the event the Fresh Start Waste Account Management team worked closely with Ideal FM to develop a programme of container deliveries and collections for general waste, which would then be taken for sorting at Fresh Start’s state of the art materials recovery facility in Swinton.
Delivery of 60 x 240l bins and 110 x1100l bins, as well as 4 x 35 yard open ROROs were provided. Fresh Start emptied and exchanged the RORO containers daily as well as collecting the bins on a daily basis, sticking to strict timescales. Fresh Start delivered all bins prior to 6am on the first day and collected the containers prior to 9am after the last day of the event.
All waste collected was then sorted at Fresh Start Waste’s facility and resulted in a total weight of 52 tonnes of waste being processed, which generated 42 tonnes which was processed at a North West energy from waste plant – diverting this nonrecyclable waste from landfill. The addition 10 tonnes of mixed recyclable materials (card, paper, metal and plastic) was separated from the general event waste collection and went on to be recycled, again this was all in the North West, further minimising the carbon footprint of the waste from the event.
Using Fresh Start Waste for the event’s waste meant that in terms of sustainability, the event organisers can rest assured that the vehicle emissions were 100% balanced through Fresh Start’s carbon offsetting programme, which sees trees planted in the UK via Forest Carbon.
