Reduce, Reuse and Recycle

Reducing your waste output, reusing items where possible and recycling as much as possible is better for the environment, and something we work with our customers to achieve.

Helping you with your waste strategy

As a carbon conscious organisation, reducing, reusing and recycling are a crucial part of the service we provide our customers. Moving them up the waste hierarchy means we can jointly achieve sustainability and environmental protection goals.

Step 1 – Waste Audit

We know that one of the best ways to help our customers achieve their sustainability goals is to conduct a waste audit to review the type and quantity of waste they are producing and produce recommendations for how we can work together to reduce, reuse, and recycle as much of it as possible.

We audit our customer’s waste ongoing, not just initially, as we know the businesses we work with change over time, and so does the waste they produce. It is working in this way which allows us to identify improvements along the way.

Our audit will not only include looking at the items in your bins but also your hazardous waste, washroom waste, confidential waste, and bulky item waste

Reduce

Reducing waste can be done by considering the items purchased into the businesses which could benefit from being reusable as opposed to single use. This might include plastic cups, cutlery and plates which are single use, vending machines with plastic water bottles inside, single use printer cartridges and many more item.

By encouraging staff to bring Tupperware rather than purchasing sandwiches in non-recyclable containers, bringing refillable water bottles and a water fountain rather than single use plastic bottles, having washable and reusable metal cutlery as opposed to single use plastic cutlery.

Changing the mindset of staff is a crucial way to start at the very top of the waste hierarchy to reduce the amount of waste your business produces in the first place.

Reuse

We work in partnership with Bulky Bob’s, a charity with a mission to End Furniture Poverty, to reuse any essential furniture items which may have previously been placed in a skip for recycling. The essential items Bulky Bob’s requires are:

  • Bed, bedding and mattress
  • Table and chairs
  • Sofa and/or easy chairs
  • Wardrobe/drawers
  • Carpets in living rooms and bedrooms
  • Curtains or blinds
  • Washing machine
  • Refrigerator and freezer
  • Cooker/oven
  • TV
  • PC

We work with you to reuse as many items as possible in this way, as this not only benefits the environment but also helps those most in need gain vital furniture, they wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford.

Recycling and legislation

Legislative compliance is a must, and as a fully licenced waste carrier we provide you with compliant advice and a service to match, with a full audit trail of paperwork and duty of care documentation to give you peace of mind and evidence should you ever require for your own auditing purposes.

As of the 1st of January 2015, under the revised EU Waste Framework Directive, all businesses were advised that they are required to separate for collection all plastic, metal, paper and glass, where technically, environmentally and economically practical to do so, in order that levels of recycling could be improved.

Since the founding of the business in 2006, we have focused on segregation at source, way ahead of legislative changes. With different coloured bins of various sizes available, we make separating your recyclable material easy.

Once collected, we transport your waste back to our own state-of-the-art Materials Recovery Facility, where it will be put through an additional screening process, prior to the waste being moved onto UK mills and recycling centres. As a supporter of the UK economy and a watcher of our carbon footprint, we believe shipping recyclable materials thousands of miles around the world is far from green, and ensure all waste is not only processed in the UK, but in all residual waste is used to generate green energy at a North-West energy from waste processing facility.
