HGV driver training programme going from strength to strength
HGV driver training programme going from strength to strength
North West business waste and recycling collector of choice Fresh Start Waste commenced their HGV driver training programme late in 2021 as part of their continued commitment to staff training and development, as well as addressing the nationwide shortage of qualified HGV drivers.
Now, just four months on, their first two trainees have qualified as fully-fledged and qualified HGV drivers, with another member of staff likely to pass during the coming weeks.
Fresh Start Waste work with thousands of businesses across the North-West of England to develop sustainable waste management solutions which look to reduce waste produced, recycle as much as possible and divert waste from landfill through using energy recovery instead. This work sees the waste collected in environmentally friendly trucks by carbon conscious Fresh Start Waste, which is then taken to their state-of-the-art recycling centre for further sorting and onward recycling.
They continued to operate throughout the pandemic and with more and more businesses choosing Fresh Start for their waste and recycling services they decided to future-proof operations and address the shortage of qualified HGV drivers by offering a fully funded comprehensive HGV training programme to those employees wishing to take this career path.

Dean Burrows, HR Manager at Fresh Start Waste said “As a family run business, we have always invested in staff training to make for a happy, productive, and loyal workforce who always put customer service at the top of the list. We are incredibly proud of Jess Hayes and Sean Edwards who have completed the qualification and congratulate them both on completing their class 2 qualification, following our intensive training programme.
“Our 16-week course has also been taken up by additional ‘Runners’ looking to progress their career and we are hopeful that they too will qualify in the coming weeks. Overall, it’s been a fantastic programme, and one which we hope others will also look to participate in moving forwards”
