Case study

Red Fox and Peacock

Red Fox and Peacock are a group of hotel pub restaurants who pride themselves on providing a welcoming environment, great drinks and home cooked food.

After working with a number of different waste collectors they moved to Carbon Conscious Fresh Start Waste in 2017.

The challenge

Initially, the service commenced at The Queens Hotel. The Victorian Grade ll listed building is situated right in the heart of Lytham with fantastic views over Lytham Green, the Ribble estuary and Lytham windmill.

“Fresh Start Waste have provided flexibility, ideas and a reliable service, and what’s more Jeff, our Account Manager, has been fantastic. He’s always available and comes back to us about any queries and helped make a success of our involvement with the Lytham Festival recently, through helping us with some forward planning. As a family-run organisation we like the fact that Fresh Start are also a family-run organisation, who are local enough to pop in and visit, and have a commitment to recycling as much of our waste as possible and not sending it to landfill. We’ve worked with other waste and recycling collectors and have stayed with Fresh Start for a reason. I’d recommend them to other businesses in the hospitality sector.”

The solution

As time moved on, the full range of sites were switched across to Fresh Start Waste, and have all remained customers for a number of years:

  • The Queens Hotel – Lytham
  • The Elephant Pub and Bakehouse – Woolton, Liverpool
  • The Eagle at Weeton
  • Lytham House – Lytham
  • The Ship at Freckleton

The current set up includes food, glass, general waste and cardboard collections on a schedule that suits each venue.

The results

Fresh Start have continued to support Red Fox and Peacock throughout COVID-19 and the lockdowns but provided a flexible schedule as and when required, reducing collections when venues were unable to open.

More recently, Fresh Start assisted in providing additional collections to tie in with the two Lytham based site’s involvement in the Lytham Festival, which saw a stellar line-up including Diana Ross, Lewis Capaldi, Simply Red and Duran Duran amongst others performers. The increased footfall this generated meant hugely busy times at the Queens Hotel and Lytham House in particular, meaning additional waste and a requirement for planned additional collections. Planning for this was completed ahead of the event to ensure everything ran smoothly.
