How Does the Contract Buyout Programme Work?

Our Contract Buyout Programme is designed to make the process straightforward, with four clear stages and no obligation. We can tell you where you stand within a few days of receiving your current agreement.

1. Provide your current contract details

Send us a copy of your existing waste agreement, with details of the services you currently receive, such as collection frequency, container types and waste streams

2. We assess your waste and contract

We’ll look at your remaining contract term, exit costs, waste types and volumes, location and service requirements, plus operational and commercial viability.

3. We calculate whether a contribution is possible

We assess the value of your waste to our facility and whether that value could support a contribution towards your confirmed termination costs.

4. We provide a proposal

If your business is approved, we’ll provide a proposal setting out:

  • Fresh Start’s contribution
  • Any contribution needed from you
  • Your new waste service package
  • The transition plan
  • Your potential start date

Does Your Business Qualify?

If you want to leave your current waste provider, here’s what to consider first:

Notice period

Many commercial waste agreements need 60 or 90 days’ written notice before the end date. If you miss that window, your contract will usually auto-renew. Check your notice period.

Automatic renewal

Rolling renewal clauses are common in contract waste management. If yours has already rolled over, you may have longer on your contract than you thought.

Termination charges

Leaving early often triggers an early exit fee. Some providers also add container removal and outstanding rental charges. Request this in writing for a full view of what you owe.

Service failure

Repeated missed collections, unagreed price rises or charges you never signed up to can give you grounds to challenge the agreement and leave the contract early.

If it’s clear that you won’t be able to get out of your current waste management contract without paying, our contract buy-out programme could free you of any charges and move you to our cost-effective and sustainable commercial waste collection services.

Types of Waste That Qualify

Not all waste is equal. The value of your waste to a processing facility can depend on its composition, volume, contamination levels and how easily it can be collected and processed. We can then use that value to support an earlier switch.

We’re particularly interested in businesses producing waste with the following characteristics:

Clean dry mixed recyclables and standard commercial waste is well suited to sorting and processing.

Waste containing materials such as cardboard and paper, plastics and metals that can be separated and recycled.

Waste with less food and moisture can have greater recovery potential, making it more suitable for our processing facility.

Regular and large volumes, typically served by front end loaders or larger containers, help support our expanded processing operation.

Your location, collection requirements and service profile need to work efficiently within our existing collection network.

If you think think your waste could be a good fit, we can assess your current waste services and contract to see whether the programme could apply to your business.

Why Do We Want Your Waste?

Our Greater Manchester materials recovery facility has been expanded to process twice the material it handled before. That additional capacity has to be filled, so we are actively identifying businesses producing dry, recoverable and recyclable waste that suits the plant.

The right kinds of waste can therefore be of great value to us and our commitment to sustainable, honest and reliable waste collections and recycling.

Why Switch to Fresh Start

We have been collecting and recycling commercial waste across the North West since 2005, more recently moving our operations into the Midlands. We process the material ourselves rather than passing it down the chain, and take a zero-to-landfill approach no matter what type of waste.

✔ 99% attendance rate  ✔ Local teams   ✔ Eco-friendly fleets

Being tied into a waste management contract doesn’t mean you have to wait until the end of the term before exploring your options. If you think your waste is a strong fit for our facility, let’s have a conversation.

Can you really pay to get me out of my waste management contract?

bullet

We can contribute towards verified exit costs where your waste, volumes and service profile are a good fit for our expanded waste and recycling facility. This is not an offer that is available to everyone, and every proposal will be subject to credit, operational and commercial approval.

How do you decide how much to contribute?

bullet

We weigh what your material is worth to our recycling facility against the cost of releasing you from your current contract. To calculate our contribution, we evaluate the following criteria:

  • The remaining term on your existing contract and any associated exit fees
  • The specific types and total volume of waste your business produces
  • Your site locations and how seamlessly collections fit into our active routes

The higher the material value and the tidier the operational fit, the more we can contribute toward your exit costs.

Do I get the money?

bullet

No. Any agreed contribution is paid directly to your existing waste provider against verified termination charges. There is no cash alternative and no payment is made to you. The programme is specifically designed to help with the cost of ending your existing waste management contract and moving your services to Fresh Start.

What counts as a verified exit cost?

bullet

A verified exit cost needs to be confirmed in writing by your current provider and is a final termination figure based on what you owe if you leave your contract. Exit fees usually include early termination charges, and any outstanding container rental and removal costs. We only accept genuine documentation from a waste provider, not estimates.

What if my waste does not qualify?

bullet

We will tell you within a few days if your business does not qualify for our waste management contract buy-out. We will still be happy to quote for your collections from the day your current agreement ends and provide a free audit of your premises and waste removal requirements. Plenty of customers use the assessment simply to find out where they stand on notice periods and renewal dates.

Will switching disrupt my collections?

bullet

No. Any approved proposal includes a transition plan and an agreed start date, with containers delivered before your existing ones are removed.

What do you need from me to assess it?

bullet

To start the process we will need a copy of your current waste agreement and a description of your existing services. This will ideally include container types and sizes, collection frequency and where your sites are located. That is enough for us to give you a clear answer.
