Fresh Start has donated £2,500 to Cash 4 Kids – our ‘Charity of the Year’.

The funds were raised in the first quarter of 2019-20 and will help sick, disadvantaged and disabled children across Greater Manchester.

“I am proud of our team, who have already made a significant contribution to this very worthy cause,” says our Chief Executive Officer Nicola McGrath.

“This summer, they volunteered to get involved in numerous charity events – supporting Superheroes Day with a ‘Great British Bake Off’-inspired baking contest and attending the Cash 4 Kids Golf Day and Glitter Ball.

‘As the year progresses, we will continue to find new ways to help the charity respond to the needs of children in our communities so they can live life to the full and realise their potential.”

Transport Planner Lorraine Ryding was victorious in our Superheroes-themed ‘Bake Off’ competition. She impressed our judges with her classic Victoria sponge cake, which was decorated with ‘Pow!’ slogans. Every cake donated was bought by colleagues from across the business – raising £155 for Cash 4 Kids.

HR Manager Dean Burrows, Commercial Development Manager Jeff Lawson, Training Officer Simon Plumb and Transport Manager Kirsty Atherton all took part in the charity Golf Day at Worsley Park Golf Club on Friday, 5 July.

“We didn’t win any trophies, but we gave it our best shot!” says Dean. “The team are delighted that Fresh Start have committed to support this fantastic charity and we were very proud to represent the company out on the course.”

Once the Golf Day had concluded, 20 of our colleagues attended the charity’s Glitter Ball which was hosted at the Worsley Park Marriott and Country Club.

More than £30,000 was raised on the night, which included a charity auction hosted by Hits Radio presenter, Darren Proctor.

“Cash 4 Kids are based in 22 areas across the UK – offering very localised support,” adds Dean, who attended the ball. “It’s nice to see that the money we raise here in Greater Manchester is used to help children in the communities we live in.”

Other guests included Transport Supervisor Keith Wareing, who says: “It was a brilliant night and we all enjoyed dressing up. More importantly, we learned a lot about the hard work of the charity and the amazing things they do such as providing medical equipment in the home of one young girl so she could leave hospital and be at home with her family.”

Charity Fundraising Executive Jessica Rigby adds: “So far this year at Hits Radio Cash 4 Kids we have been able to help more than 7,500 children living in Greater Manchester with mental, physical or sensory disabilities; with behavioural or psychological disorders; living in poverty or situations of deprivation; and suffering through distress, abuse or neglect.

‘As a small team of three, we are so grateful for the amazing ongoing support of Fresh Start Waste Services, who go above and beyond to help us raise vital funds. We can’t thank them enough!”

In addition to supporting Cash 4 Kids, which works in partnership with Hits Radio, Fresh Start have also sponsored the Under 12s’ kit for Barr Hill Junior Football Club and the inter-club tournament at Moorside Cricket & Bowling Club.

“In Manchester, we worked closely with CityCo to clean up the streets during the Great British Spring Clean and we are continuing to provide free-of-charge bins to a soup kitchen for the homeless,” says Nicola.

“We are incredibly proud to lead the way in waste management and are committed to giving back to the communities we serve.”
