We ran the Race for Life

wave

The determined ladies of Fresh Start Waste Services once again slipped on their running shoes, dressed in pink and braced themselves for the Race for Life ahead of them, in aid of Cancer Research.

The Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is an inspiring annual event that takes places across the UK, which raises millions of pounds each year to help fund the fight against cancer. The money raised goes towards Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to help continue the research and the discovery of new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer, which in turn is helping save the lives of those affected.

Survival rates have now doubled since the 1970’s, however research shows that still approximately 3,300 people are diagnosed with cancer in the North West alone, so being part of the fight back against this dreadful disease made it all worth while.

Fundraising

The Fresh Start ladies wanted to raise as much sponsorship as possible for this worthy cause, so from the day they signed up, they each approached every employee, family member and friend in their sights! Generous donations were made by Fresh Start Waste Services and Maru Logistics, which made a massive difference, thank you!

Ready, set, go!

On the day of the 5k run, Pennington Flash was alive with an electric atmosphere of like minded women, children, dogs and a pony, who were all determined to make it past that finish line. It was a great sight to see the nature reserve awash with a sea of pink!

After the group warm up, the ladies were raring to go, by walking, jogging, running or trotting their way around the course and over the finish line.

Emotions were running high for many, after completing the challenge, as for many of the participants, the cause is close to their hearts as they know someone who has sadly been affected by this disease.

The Fresh Start ladies all made it round the course in good time and were pleased they did it and to be involved in the great event. Thanks to our resident photographer that we had on hand to capture every moment!

Our fundraising collectively made over £700, which has been donated to the worthy charity.

Watch out cancer, we’ll be coming for you again next year!
